Arsenal appear to be on the verge of finalising their summer deal for long-term target, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Fan’s were delighted when Xhaka’s friend and journalist Arthan Muhaxhiri, uploaded a picture of himself alongside the midfielder in a restaurant, preparing to travel to London to complete the move.
The journalist claimed that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs, and that the midfielder was on his way to London to finalise paperwork.
Muhaxhiri posted the celebratory photo to his Facebook page, captioning:
“Just confirmed. Granit Xhaka is traveling to London to finalise an agreement with Arsenal FC! Congrats Granit!”
Xhaka would become Arsene Wenger’s first outfield summer signing for two years. The social media message comes just hours after Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director accused the Arsenal boss of trying to pick up the midfielder at a discounted price.
The Bundesliga side value the midfielder at £35million, whereas Arsenal are believed to have initially offered just £19m.
“There is an offer. But it does not mean that we will allow Granit a transfer for that price.
“We really don’t need to discuss the fee proposed in the offer.”
Max Ebert, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Sporting Director
Switzerland international Xhaka, appears to have already settled personal terms with the Gunners, though whether the clubs have reached an agreement in terms of a fee remains to be seen.
Knowing Arsene’s track record for thrifty transfer business, the celebratory photo may have been posted a little prematurely. Arsenal fans will be hoping Wenger doesn’t skimp on the £1 difference this time like he did with Luis Suarez!
