Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be playing in a Manchester United shirt next year according to Dutch newspaper “De Telegraf”.
He turned down a $50 million per year offer to play in the Chinese Super League to come to the English Premier League, and while he won’t be playing for peanuts at Manchester United, his salary won’t come close to the $50 million he could have gotten in China.
I’d chalk this up to unsubstantiated rumor if it were not for De Telegraf’s connections to Mino Raiola, Zlatan’s manager.
Adding more fuel to the fire is the Instagram picture posted by former Zlatan’s close friend and Swedish international player Alexander Ostlund, which shows the pair flying on a private jet somewhere — possibly Manchester.
Ibrahimiovic’s longtime manager, Mino Raiola, represents about 20 footballers besides including Mario Balotelli, Pavel Nedvêd, Paul Pogba, and Romelu Lukaku.
Here’s a list of the noteworthy transfers Raiola has brokered over the years:
It’s rumored that Ibrahimovic’s Manchester United deal is structured such that he will slide directly into a managerial position when he retires from playing in a few years.
Ibrahimovic will hone his managerial craft under Jose Mourinho, who will succeed Louis van Gaal as Manchester United’s coach.
Ibrahimovic last played under Mourinho at Milan during the 2008-2009 season.
If Zlatan is indeed going to Manchester United, which appears to be the case, he and Jose Mourinho will be must-see-TV in the EPL next year.
I can’t think of a more entertaining duo to watch than a mad king and a living legend. Get the popcorn ready.
