Many of you know that Jason Day won The Players this weekend. What you may not know is that The Players has one of the biggest purses in all of golf at $10.5 million dollars.
This means that by winning, Jason Day received one of the largest checks on the PGA Tour. He went home with a payout of $1,890,000, taking his career earnings to $33.3 mil at 28 years old! Not to mention he won by four strokes, solidifying his number one title.
To give you a sense of how much more The Players purse really is, let’s compare it to the Masters, the most well known major in golf. Day went home with $90,000 more dollars than Danny Willett did at the Masters.
The second place winner, Kevin Chappell, also took home seven figures this weekend. Standing alone behind Jason Day, Chappell made $1,134,000! The 3rd place winners made half a mil, which is still more than they’d make at almost any other tournament.
