Does This Picture Mean Liverpool Are Signing Higuain?

Social media, the place where transfer rumours are made up and die all before you’ve had time to boil the kettle.

This new age of football is a funny old world; we’ve got made up deadlines from journalists to try and create that contrived Deadline Day drama regarding Arsenal and Jamie Vardy and now we’ve got this:

Although the upwards shot of the Liverpool manager makes it look like one of those photos you’d see in James Bond when Q is compiling a dossier on 007’s next target, was Jurgen Klopp really there for Napoli’s, Gonzalo Higuain?

This gets a ‘Yohan Cabaye to Crystal Palace’ rating on the realism scale. It could happen, and stranger things have, but given the opportunities no doubt open to the former Real Madrid striker, is a European football-less Liverpool that appealing?

Napoli won’t be letting their talisman go for any less than the striker’s reported £73million release fee clause.

The money isn’t an issue for the Reds, or any top flight English club given the income from the latest television deal, however, it would certainly wipe out the majority of their budget.

Does Higuain solve the problems Liverpool have, enough to sacrifice so much of their transfer kitty? Not even close.

Currently at his disposal, Klopp has an improving, yet raw, Divock Origi, an unwanted Christian Benteke, a permanently injured Daniel Sturridge and a Danny Ings. So there’s certainly room for a big name in the final third.

With regards to alternatives to Higuain, well there’s plenty, but the problem is that the likes of Michy Batshuayi and Alexandre Lacazette aren’t proven talents outside of Ligue 1.

What’s He Saying

“I’m only thinking about the national team,”

“We’ll talk after the Copa.”

Gonzalo Higuain

So, yeah, the Argentina isn’t offering apart from the usual cliched nonsense.
