Dustin’s brother Austin has been carrying his bag for around two years and his inability as an aide on the course is a well know fact amongst TOUR insiders. This was recently driven home by a tweet from the “Secret Tour Pro.”
DJ has another weekend meltdown, have to say tho, with Austin on the bag DJ might as well loop for himself! #Worthless #STP

The secret pro’s criticism of Dustin Johnson’s brother added fuel to the stories of complete and utter ineptitude from the brother-caddie. One such story described the painful incident when Austin was trying to work out distance, apparently 19 plus 179 is a real quandary. It’s 198 yards to the pin Austin!

I had initially thought DJ’s brother was the worst person to loop for the world number 3. The pair have a good relationship but seem to enjoy the same things in life…beautiful company and post-round parties. This relationship would be a bit like Ronnie Cray providing some anger management sessions for twin brother Reggie, counterproductive.

DJ’s success proves that his anarchic style of golf requires a carefree formulae. Contrast him with with Spieth, a player who is always meticulous. His all-encompassing strategy is deployed with ease after a long player-caddie conference. Michael Greller informs Jordan of the plan Bs and together they make a decision with joint accountability.
DJ’s victory confirmed that his laissez-faire style doesn’t need a proactive bagman. Fair play to Austin for enjoying the good life, but you have to wonder if chilling in the Bahamas two days before your boss is playing in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is responsible behaviour. Last year Dustin finished tied 53rd, perhaps a looper who diligently studies the greens would help the player?
DJ proved he can deliver when everything conspires against him, but could he be the best with a caddie who knows what they’re doing?
