This summer’s transfer window is surprisingly active, so early on, as the mid-table/average/pure shite Premier League clubs enjoy having their bank accounts topped up thanks to the astronomical TV deal.
Tottenham Hotspur got in on the act, today, with the announcement of Vincent Janssen joining from Dutch outfit, AZ Alkmaar, taking their spending past the £30million mark with Victor Wanyama arriving, last month.
Delving into the football archives – okay, a five-second Google of ‘Janssen good goal’ – brought up a fair few reasons as to why Pochettino has moved for the 22-year-old. However, it is this particular goal, against Ajax, that will get the Spurs fans crowing with excitement.
Sure, it’s no thunderbolt from 35-yards or isn’t a mazy run and it certainly won’t be on any Goal of the Season award shortlists. However, it displays so many attributes of a top quality striker; aerial prowess, awareness, link-up play, control and, most importantly, finishing ability.
In a transfer market that has no value – Sadio Mane for £35million – Mauricio Pochettino may well have worked wonders, again, and unearthed a gem.
