The PGA Tour is in NY this week for the Barclays, and the city is taking full advantage of the player’s availability to promote the FedExCup.
Yesterday, Jordan Spieth lit up the Empire State Building, and today, Patrick Reed was invited to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
What no one expected, even Patrick Reed himself, was at how strong Reed hit the gavel. He hit it so hard that after the third time, the head of the gavel flew off and into the crowd of media and fans.
This just happened after ringing the bell at the @NYSE !They told me to give it 3 good hits, so I did! pic.twitter.com/SGX26wTHAB

He says in the tweet that, “They told me to give it three good hits, so I did!”
One golf account even added a protracer to the launch of the gavel head.
The @PReedGolf gavel break is better with ProTracer. https://t.co/2LMZoyzXWP

It’s so much better with the protracer!! Not a bad arch.
Reed ended up taking a pic with the broken gavel and even though that wasn’t supposed to happen, it seems like everyone still had a great time and were all smiles.
Oops!
Patrick Reed slammed the gavel a little too hard at the New York Stock Exchange. pic.twitter.com/dats2s5z5U
