Manchester City have executed a coup (Turkish separatists, take note) by signing one of the most talented young players on the planet from Schalke 04 for $50 million. Best known for scoring a game-winner against Real Madrid in the Champions League, 20-year-old Leroy Sané comes over on a 5-year deal and could immediately threaten to take playing time away from Jesus Navas.
Sané has championship lineage on both sides.
His mother is German rhythmic gymnastics champion Regina Weber, who won Bronze in the 1984 Olympics.
And his father is former Senegalese striker Souleyman Sané, who has an unusually cool name and haircut.
Leroy Sané, a speedy right winger with profound technical ability, said Pep Guardiola’s reputation for developing young players was a big part of the reason he wanted to go to Manchester City.
I followed Pep at Barcelona and Bayern where he achieved a lot and worked really well with young players and brought them on. That was a big part of my decision to come here.
I think he can make me a more complete player.
Watch Sané talk about his move to City in his own words:
Guardiola had nothing but good things to say about the young winger.
He has great technical ability, is comfortable on the ball and there is much to admire about the way he plays football.
Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City
Sané, who holds dual German and French citizenship, made his debut for the German national team last year at the age of 19 against France and was one of the brightest young stars in the Bundesliga last year. The move to the Premier League, where the money is bigger and the stakes are higher, only makes sense.
Between Leroy Sané, Sergio Aguero, Nolito, Kevin de Bruyne, and David Silva, Pep Guardiola will have an embarrassment of attacking riches at his disposal.
The Manchester Derby should be insané this year.
Will Manchester City finish above Manchester United in the Premier League?
