Jose Mourinho is always in the news for one reason or another. Usually, it’s related to (the perception of) him being an asshole – like sending Bastian Schweinsteiger to train with the reserves. But this time, he did something classy.
Manchester United beat Leicester City 2-1 in this year’s edition of the Community Shield, which pits the Premier League Champions (Leicester City) against the winners of the FA Cup (Manchester United).
Mourninho dedicated his first trophy as Man United’s manager to Louis van Gaal and the players who didn’t make the pitch.
I would like to dedicate this victory to Louis van Gaal.
I don’t mind him having one more trophy, and I remember when I have left clubs who have gone on to win things they don’t always recognise who helped them get there.
So this win is for him and in addition I dedicate it to the Manchester United players who were not involved in the game.
If Jose Mourinho, The Gentleman is the version that Manchester United is indeed getting as their manager, they’ll be primed to compete for a Premier League title this year.
But if it’s Jose Mourinho, The Asshole, it could be a turbulent season for the Red Devils.
