Borussia Dortmund star and German international Marco Reus has finally gotten his driver’s license back. It’s been almost two years after being fined $608,000 for driving on a fake Dutch license after police recognized him during a routine traffic stop.

Yes, the same guy that’s on the cover of Fifa ’17.
So proud to be the winner of the #FIFA17COVER! Thank you all for voting!! ? pic.twitter.com/CE6KDLh5YT

In Germany, traffic fines are assessed based on your income, and since Marco Reus makes a shitload of money, his fine was well in excess of half a million dollars. He became tabloid fodder back in 2014 when it was revealed that he had been driving around on a fake license for years.
Reus was fined 90 units of daily income, which by *coincidence* is the maximum fine that can be assessed before it becomes a criminal charge.
The 27-year-old midfielder was forced to sit out from this summer’s Euro championships due to a groin injury, freeing up some time to take driving lessons in preparation for his test.
Yes, it’s true that I’ve passed my driving test. I am pleased that this chapter is now closed.
Marco Reus
While Reus might have one of the funnier stories involving a footballer and traffic fines, he is far from the only offender. Mario Balotelli made headlines back in 2011 when he paid £10,000 in fines after his car was impounded 27 times.
John Terry is notorious for parking with wanton disregard for the law (though that’s probably not his biggest character flaw…).

Mostly, we’re happy that Marco Reus has a legit driver’s license and doesn’t need his mom to pick him up from practice anymore. Cheers bud!
