American golf fan David Johnson is challenged to make a putt by Team Europe at Hazeltine on the eve of the Ryder Cup on Thursday. Johnson had been shouting at Europe’s Henrik Stenson on the practice green before being bet $100 that he couldn’t make the shot. In front of the watching crowd, he sizes up the shot and makes the putt, to the disbelief of the European team.
This is the best part about a Ryder Cup; players, fans and the support team all having some fun during one of the most competitive environments in sport.
McIlroy later tweeted a video of the American sinking the putt, with the caption: ‘Has the Ryder Cup started already?’
Johnson later told reporters: ‘I razzed them a little bit, and they heard me, which was insane. I closed my eyes, swallowed my puke, and hit the putt. It happened to go in.’
