The one thing that will ensure Tottenham finish above Arsenal

Tottenham had their best chance in decades to finish above Arsenal last season and somehow still blew it. The word is ‘Spursy’ and not ‘Arsenaly’ for a reason.

That makes it difficult to argue that the Lilywhites are going to come ahead of their bitter rivals, because it seems like if it was ever going to happen, it would’ve happened then.

That being said, the Emirates Stadium is not a happy place right now – when is it ever – as Wenger continues to dilly-dally over new additions and bids half-a-shilling for Valencia’s Mustafi.

The Gunners might have been missing Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil for the 4-3 defeat to Liverpool, but you get the impression even their return isn’t going to solve all their problems.

Arsenal’s midfield might be sensational, but it never seems to lead anywhere. Giroud showed at the Euros that he has all the pace of a tortoise carrying Adebayo Akinfenwa, whilst Ozil and Alexis Sanchez reportedly don’t even want to be there.

Arsenal fans are so desperate for a new striker, they believe signing fake players.

Over at Tottenham, their frontline is looking a little blunt. And yet, however corner-taking Harry Kane might have performed – or not performed, as it were – this summer for England. Last year, he was dismissed as a one-season wonder and we all know how that turned out.

Now that Vincent Janssen is competing for his place, Kane is going to have to work harder than ever. The Everton game may have been too early to judge, but Spurs weren’t quite as explosive as Mauricio Pochettino might like them to be.

2015/16:

Kane – 25 goals/28 PL games

Janssen – 27 goals/34 Eredivisie games

A week into the Premier League season, Arsenal have three goals whilst Spurs have just the one. In the long-term, however, it’s Tottenham who look more like the finished article.

Their attack might not be quite as glittery as Arsenal’s, but one thing is for sure – they’re not in crisis mode. Arsenal have hit peak crisis early this season, and as the campaign goes on, there’s a very real danger Spurs are going to pip them to the bragging rights in north London for the first time in what feels like forever.
