Borussia Dortmund’s famous ‘Yellow Wall’ is one of the seven wonders of the footballing world. The German fans are second-to-none across Europe in making a racket, and generally supporting the Bundesliga giants.
If only the players were as loyal as the fans though. Former captain Mats Hummels was the latest to make the move to rivals Bayern Munich, and that has, rightly so, left a sour taste in the mouths of the Dortmund fans.
The German centre-half has been quoted as saying that…
“I have been a little bit surprised by the magnitude of the reaction. I thought people already knew about the bond I had with Munich”.
Hmmm, ok. To be fair, football fans are usually pretty forgiving… said nobody, ever! So saying that you had a ‘bond’ with your ex-club’s greatest rivals, who you were captain for, is probably not going to sit well with the vast majority.
As it is, the Dortmund fans had to be kept behind a cage when Hummels was their leader…
The new Bayern defender has also stated the following…
“I’ve been spending my time in Munich in each of the last summer and winter breaks. It’s quite strange that I of all people am being accused of trampling over the values of club loyalty”.
Again, what is the lad playing at?! Why does he think saying something like that would calm down the passionate Dortmund contingent? It’s not as if Bayern haven’t nabbed all their best players over recent season, from Robert Lewandowski to Torsten Frings.
100% hated in Dortmund?
Here are some other ‘club legends’ that have made the controversial trip to big rivals.
Barcelona to Real Madrid??!! Did the Portuguese man actually want to be on Catalans’ pitch-forks?
Moving across North London was probably not the centre-back’s finest moves in terms of safety. But it certainly was sensible for career prospects…
As if this bloke couldn’t get any more hate, and not just for wearing that totally shit hat. The Argentine switched allegiance in Manchester, officially making him the most unpopular South American in the red-half of city. Only to be recently knocked off top spot by Angel di Maria.
We’ll save this man for last. The Italian legend is the ONLY player to be able to play for Inter, AC and then Juve, and still be totally adored by every single fan. One word; DON.
