From public villain No.1 to having a statue erected in America, it has been quite the turnaround for New York City FC’s, Frank Lampard.
The jibes aimed at Lampard for being, yet another, pro in the twilight years of his career, looking for one final lucrative payday, were as strong as they’d ever been for a footballer heading out to Major League Soccer. However, they were deserved, given the fact Lamps practically just ignored the fact he had a contract with NYCFC and popped off to Manchester City for a bit.
A slow start to life at the Yankee Stadium didn’t help things for Frank’s rapport with the passionate MLS fans. However, 90 minutes is a long time in football, and now the Chelsea legend is being deemed as one of the best overseas signings that Major League Soccer has ever made.
It’s been quite a successful period in front of goal for the Man City legend, with 11 goals in his last 13 games for Patrick Vieira’s side, including two on the night he received a commemorative 300 shirt from George Clooney – come on, that’s got to be Oceans Eleven, himself, right? – for reaching 300 career league goals.
“Frank is a great guy. Like me, he knows how to get money out of people when he’s past it.
“That reminds me, I meant to ask Lamps, Pirlo and Gerrard if they fancied starring in Oceans 14. Money has got a bit tight for me recently.”
