Francesco Totti has just done the most Francesco Totti thing ever!

Don, legend, King, Emperor, whatever the superlative, none of them can fully describe the man that is Francesco Totti. At the tender age of 39, the Italian striker already has more bragging rights to boast around Rome, than Maximus Decimus Meridius.

In a match that could have been mistaken for being played in the Peak District during the summer, the torrential rain caused a 30-minute delay to the second-half between Roma and Sampdoria on the weekend.

This gave Totti just enough time to sitback and relax with another cuppa’, before coming on in the pissing rain, and turning the game on its head.

The Roma captain has been quoted as saying…

“Happiness is playing football in the rain”

Francesco Totti

What a top quote, as there is absolutely nothing better than playing a game of 5-aside between your mates, scoring a winner and doing your best Thierry Henry knee-slide.

And the Roma no. 10 proved that enjoyment yesterday by setting up Edin Dzeko for the equaliser and then went on to get the winner himself right at the death.

Totti has now scored in 23 consecutive Serie A seasons, whilst finding the net 305 times in a record 759 games in all competitions… Jesus Christ! He really is Rome’s favourite son.

The three-points puts Roma 3rd in the league, two points behind Juventus who have a 100% record so far. Not all that surprising after the Old Lady got rid of ‘Paul-lost-in-Manchester-Pogba’.

Elsewhere in Italy, fresh from Joe Hart’s enjoyment at Claudio Bravo’s mistake in the Manchester derby, the ex-Citizen thought he’d do his best impression of the Spanish ‘keeper, fumbling a corner, and in the process allowing Atlanta back into the match against Torino.

In the meantime, let’s just pray-for-Hart when Totti meets the England international in two weeks time… best of luck, John.
