You saw Tiger Woods compete in the Hero World Challenge, and now he’s back for his first official PGA Tour event at the Farmers Insurance Open!
It’s hard not to get excited when Tiger is playing in the field, especially after such a long hiatus or after thinking he wouldn’t make a return at all. Well he is definitely back and even he admits he has butterflies going into the tournament.
“I’m always nervous when I play, because that means I care. I’m looking forward to competing against these guys. I’m very excited about getting started on the season. I’m coming back on one of my favorite venues.”
Woods has eight wins at Torrey Pines, including one major victory with the 2008 U.S. Open. While we did not see him hunch over in pain at the HWC, his back is still a concern for many.
It doesn’t seem like Tiger is too concerned about it.
“I’ve played a lot (since the Hero), probably four or five times a week,” Woods stated. “I played over the holidays. I’ve had a fun time preparing for this event and I’m looking forward to it.
Over the next five weeks Woods will be playing in four full-field tournaments.
“That is a concern, no doubt about it, but I’m also looking forward to it. I’ve sat out long enough. I feel good about my health, I just need to get out there and do it. I feel like I’m strong enough to handle the workload.”
Tiger Woods feels like he’s strong enough!! Those words are heaven to any golfers ears. Seriously, who doesn’t love a strong and competitive Tiger Woods in the field. Now that everyone is going so low with their scores, it’ll be awesome to see him come back and try to really compete with the best.
Not to mention the Masters is around the corner and of course Tiger (and everyone else) has thought about that too.
“I’ve been thinking about it,” Woods said about the Masters. “Once the season ends, typically, in the fall, I start thinking about what I need to do to get ready for Augusta. I’ve done it for 20 years. Whether it’s equipment or it’s swing or whatever it is, in the back of my head I’m getting ready for Augusta.”
Here’s to hoping Woods puts up some low scores this week to realistically put him in contention and not only in our minds.
