As you may have heard, Brooks Koepka stormed his way to victory at the U.S. Open, overpowering Erin Hills and tying the record for lowest score to par in tournament history.
While he’s a favorite of the DFS set and hardcore golf fans for his easygoing demeanor and raw power, the 27-year-old is anything but well known by more casual golf fans and the general sports lover.
In light of this fact, here are a handful of, well, facts about the West Palm Beach, Florida native. And here’s a bonus fun fact, not sure if he still does it, but after mashing a drive, Koepka reportedly says to himself, “That’s Gucci, bruh.” So there’s that.
He took a unique path to the PGA Tour
After the PGA Tour shut down Q-School, Brooks Koepka took the road less traveled and opted to play in Europe rather than toiling away on the Web.com Tour. Here’s what he had to say about the experience.
“There’s some pretty crazy stories from that time in Europe...Going over to play the Challenge Tour was really, really cool; to get to travel the world at 21 years old, and do what you do for a living, is pretty neat. I love travelling. I’ll go anywhere. I think it’s so much fun. Some of the places we went to were pretty neat. I think it helped me grow up a little bit and really figure out that, ‘Hey, play golf, get it done, and then you can really take this somewhere.’ I built a lot of confidence off that.”
