WATCH: The Gutsy Shot Calling That Led G2 eSports To Victory Over Team SoloMid

G2 eSports dramatic last-gasp victory over Team SoloMid on Day 5 of the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational will go down in history as one of Europe’s most important victories over North America. With so much on the line, incisive shot calling was required to close out the game. Taking the lead for his team, top laner Daehan “Expect” Ki stepped up to co-ordinate his team to glory in spectacular fashion.

The significance of G2 eSports victory over Team SoloMid should not be underestimated. Staring at elimination from the competition, the EU LCS champions’ dramatic comeback over their rivals from across the pacific, not only secured G2’s spot in the semi-finals (importantly avoiding SK Telecom T1), but also assured Europe’s preferential seed for the forthcoming World Championship.

The result denied Team SoloMid a guaranteed spot in the next round, forcing the North Americans to play out a disastrous tiebreaker against Flash Wolves.

At the games’ mid-point, it seemed inconceivable that TSM would squander such a commanding lead. After securing first blood and establishing firm footholds across the map, G2 eSports’ MSI looked destined to be on course for a grizzly end as the NA LCS squad picked up kills, towers and dragons without reply.

G2 showed exactly why they’re not to be written off however. Despite a significant deficit, the European representatives sneakily took away a baron buff from underneath TSM’s nose. The late-game scaling composition began to switch online, growing stronger with every passing moment of the match.

After a surge down the top lane into Team SoloMid’s base, G2 eSports were faced with a critical decision: retreat or look to end the game? It was at this moment that Expect stepped forward to make the boldest of calls:

Dismissing his teammates calls to play it safe, return to base and reset, Expect seized the opportunity to put an end to proceedings. Despite mid laner Luka “PerkZ” Perković and AD carry Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen’s concerns regarding the team’s “low HP”, Expect convinced his carries to stay with him, confident in his playmaking abilities:

“No! Come come come. Believe me!

“Jayce Jayce Jayce Jayce!”

With his teammates’ faith invested in his call, the Korean top laner preemptively called the match-winning play, flashing and knocking-back Team SoloMid mid laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg’s Jayce into the primed claws of his teammates. Within seconds, Expect threw himself into the next target Jason “WildTurtle” Tran, leaving both of TSM damage dealers motionless on the floor.

One gutsy call from Expect and the game was over, he had led G2 eSports to triumph and restored pride to the European region. Daehan “Expect” Ki may not be the poster boy of the G2 roster, but his value to the team after listening to these spine-tingling voice communications, cannot be brought into question. With a debut best of five on an international stage to come for G2 eSports, European fans will continue to rally behind their redeemed representatives.
