Cristiano Ronaldo’s mum must have a very large mantelpiece to showcase all of her son’s awards, just from the last 12 months, let alone his whole career.
2016 would have been a particularly sweet one for the Real Madrid superstar, with slight murmurings at the beginning of the calendar year that he may well be past his best. However, those who don’t believe in Ronaldo, are the very people that push the former Manchester United star in his quest to be accepted as the greatest footballer of all-time.
A blockbuster 12 months for the Portugal captain, that earned him a Champions League and Euro 2016 winners’ medal added to the collection, also saw Ronaldo collect no fewer than 16 individual awards!
16. Champions League 2015-16 top scorer
CR7 converted the winning penalty in the shootout, and celebrated like he'd won another individual honour.
16 goals in the 2015/16 competition, making him the top scorer for the fifth time in his career.

15. UEFA team of Euro 2016
Got to question whether his inclusion was deserved. Maybe he was more deserving of manager of the tournament?

A sweet moment for CR7, was made even sweeter by the fact he pipped Luis Suarez to the award.

13. 2015-16 UEFA Best Player in Europe

Following in another Real Madrid great's footsteps, by claiming Marca's award for the best player of La Liga's 2015/16 campaign.

11. 2016 Goal 50 winner
This feels like a rather trivial award, with Goal's writers voting for the best player of 2016, but you just know that CR7 will take any accolade he can get.

8. FourFourTwo’s No.1 player
Irony is, Ronaldo hates playing in a 4-4-2 formation, with his back to goal.

7. Ballon d’Or 2016
Ronnie's favourite. But still one behind Messi.

3. Eurosport World Star of the Year 2016
There won't be many times Ronaldo will beat Usain Bolt in a race. But he did here.

2. Best European Sportsman award
Would've given it to Andy Murray, ourselves.

1. The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016
The suit was worthy of the award, alone.

So, there you have it, a 12 months of mainly utterly pointless and redundant awards. But Ronaldo’s ego remains stroked, so the Real Madrid hierarchy and dressing room can sleep easy for the rest of the week, at least – well, until CR7 finds out that Los Blancos are quietly replacing him!
