I know what you did last summer but what about this one?

It’s no secret that football can be a capricious game at times. One minute your face is being plastered over official club merchandise, and the next you’re down on your luck, out of the side, and facing a last minute deadline day loan move to Stoke (because Mark Hughes is really trying to build something, and sees you as an important part of his plans).

Clubs these days, particularly in the Premier League, where managers – not omnipotent sporting directors tasked with building a long-term project – are given the transfer reigns. You might have been Louis van Gaal’s cup of tea, Daley, but you’re not necessarily Mourinho’s (although he probably still likes you a little more than Luke Shaw). It’s business, not personal.

It’s unlikely that we’ll see any of these 16 players pop up at the Britannia – to the contrary, many of them will have plenty of suitors if they’re transfer listed this summer, especially with their current clubs keen to raise some cash – but, unless circumstances radically change, expect to see them on the Sky Sports transfer ticker.

Then┬áthere are a group of players who are almost certain to move on – to the extent that they’ve probably already began clearing their locker: Hazard, James, Morata, Rooney, Sturridge, and so on. All in all, it looks like we’re gearing up for another record-setting summer spending total.
