Whatever critics say about Greyson “GoldenGlue” Gilmer’s in-game deficiencies, the Team Liquid mid laner certainly possesses a thick skin. After being benched by the TL organisation after just one series defeat, GoldenGlue has hit back at the decision, vowing to harness his frustrations to motivate himself for the remainder of the split.
After a tortuous Spring Split, in which he was replaced by starting ADC Chae “Piglet” Gwang-jin, GoldenGlue returned to the fray after bootcamping hard in Korea to prove his value to the Team Liquid organisation.
Yet, after just two games and defeat at the hands of Counter Logic Gaming, TL’s management issued a clear vote of ‘no confidence’, benching GoldenGlue in favour of substitute mid laner Andrew “Slooshi” Pham.
Goldenglue would play no part in Team Liquid’s second series of the opening weekend against Echo Fox. The decision was condemned by an array of analysts and professional coaches, questioning the team’s decision to shattered GoldenGlue’s confidence with such reckless abandon.
I really want to watch the TL games from yesterday to see what warrants the instant removal of GG.

With Slooshi’s start against Echo Fox, Team Liquid held the embarrassing record for having started three different mid laners, three different ADCs, and two different supports in just barely over one split – the organisation continued to make the same mistakes.
Though GoldenGlue initially expressed his dismay at the decision via social media, he had, until recently, provided no further comment on his reaction to the decision:

Speaking with Blitz eSports, the North American mid laner was asked directly to articulate his thoughts on Team Liquid’s decision to bench him in favour of Slooshi after just a single game:
“I don’t think that the decision was a good one, but something clicked with me last week after that happened.
“Although I really don’t like the decision, I don’t think it’s a good decision in the long run and even like a week after, I’m actually super glad that it happened because I think I just feel different now.
“Something just clicked – it’s OK to feel a little bit nervous and basically just be more confident be more bold.”

Having allowed his critics to affect his play in the Spring Split, GoldenGlue will not allow any entity – not even his own team – to dent his confidence this summer.
Though it may not have been Team Liquid’s intention to stoke the flames underneath their starting mid laner, GoldenGlue plans to channel the decision to bench him in Week 1 as motivation for the remainder of the split.
Whether he possesses the ability to lift both his personal and his team’s game remains to be seen, but GoldenGlue will not allow himself to be bullied out of the picture as he was previously.
