Liverpool are one of a few clubs to have played in every single Premier League season. With the league celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, though, the Reds are still to take the trophy back to Anfield.
That said, some world-class players have graced the turf of Anfield over the past 25 years. I was tasked with choosing a 25-man squad of Liverpool players based on the past 25 years. The catch? I have to have a balanced squad and must only pick a single player from every season. Here’s my squad:
Bruce Grobbelaar – 1992/93 – Goalkeeper
How Liverpool could do with the Zimbabwean goalkeeper between the sticks now? Image Source: Twitter
John Barnes – 1993/94 – Midfielder
When not rapping, he was flying down the wing for the Reds. Image Source: Twitter
Mark Wright – 1994/95 – Defender
160 games for Liverpool, 0 TOWIE appearences. Image Source: Twitter
Robbie Fowler – 1995/96 – Forward
They don't call him God for nothing. Image Source: Twitter
Steve Finnan – 2003/04 – Defence
Steady right-back who was a lot better on Merseyside than Barcelona. Image Source: Twitter
Michael Owen – 1997/98 – Forward
Before joining arch rivals Man Utd, Owen was the golden boy of Merseyside.

Paul Ince – 1998/99 – Midfield
Thankfully, Ince was a much better player than he was a manager. Image Source: Twitter
Jamie Carragher – 1999/00 – Defence
The club's second-longest ever serving player is a complete non-brainer. Image Source: Twitter
Gary McAllister – 2000/01 – Midfield
The club's golden oldie was one of the best free transfer signings ever. Image Source: Twitter
Robbie Fowler – 1995/96 – Forward

Jerzy Dudek – 2002/03 – Goalkeeper
Remember Istanbul? We don't need to say anything else. Image Source: Twitter
Sami Hyypia – 2001/02 – Defence
Former club captain who could probably do a job for Jurgen Klopp these days. Image Source: Twitter
Steve McManaman – 1996/97 – Midfield
46 goals in 272 games before becoming a galactico. We won't mention the punditry.

Xabi Alonso – 2005/06 – Midfield
One of the club's best ever imports was the classy Spaniard. Image Source: Twitter
Javier Mascherano – 2006/07 – Midfield
The Argentine added steel to a classy midfield during Rafa Benitez's time in charge. Image Source: Twitter
Fernando Torres – 2007/08 – Forward
Dreamy goal-machine - you can't not like El Nino. Image Source: Twitter
Alvaro Arbeloa – 2008/09 – Defence
No one realised just how good he was until he bossed it in Madrid. Image Source: Twitter
Pepe Reina – 2009/10 – Goalkeeper
Arguably the club's greatest No.1 in the Premier League years. Image Source: Twitter
Luis Suarez – 2010/11 – Forward
Few deserved the No.7 shirt as much (when not biting). Image Source: Twitter
Dirk Kuyt – 2011/12 – Midfield
You knew just what you'd get from Kuyt - hard work. Image Source: Twitter
Daniel Agger – 2011/12 – Defence
The club's classiest centre-back since Alan Hansen. Image Source: Twitter
Xabi Alonso – 2005/06 – Midfield
One of the club's best ever imports was the classy Spaniard. Image Source: Twitter
Jordan Henderson – 2014/15 – Midfield
The successor to Steven Gerrard's throne. Image Source: Twitter
Nathaniel Clyne – 2015/16 – Defence
Mr Consistent deserves a place in defence. Image Source: Twitter

Whilst some names clearly pick themselves, such as Jamie Carragher, Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard, others were more difficult to choose. No doubt some will disagree with the inclusion of Steve Finnan or Paul Ince. It’s easy to forget the contribution of some, whilst others were included to create a rounded squad.
One thing’s for sure; with this squad, Liverpool would’ve clinched a much-awaited Premier League crown by now.
