The regular Championship season has drawn to a close following yet another incredibly exciting and unpredictable campaign for all those involved. With the battle for survival and promotion equally fierce it has once again proved that England’s second-tier is the most competitive in the world.
Newcastle and Brighton blew away the competition, leaving a lot to be desired from the rest. It is testament to their teams that if they were included in the gallery, then it would be full of their players. This isn’t the case though. Interestingly it is quite bereft of Sunderland and Middlesbrough players, which does show why they had massive problems this season with so few top quality players to speak of.

Jordan Pickford
Pretty much the only good thing to happen to Sunderland in ages. Image Source: Twitter
Chris Wood
27 goals in the Championship. Expect to see him in the Premier League next season. Image Source: Twitter
Pontus Jansson
Leeds staged a coup with Jansson who was the best centre-half in the league this season. Image Source: Twitter
Charlie Taylor
A bit petulant refusing to play but he is a hell of a wing-back. Image Source: Twitter
Tommy Smith
A surprise in the surprise team of the season. Image Source: Twitter
Tom Ince
If he had half the ability of his father, he'd be a very good player. Still deserves to be plying his trade in England's top flight. Image Source: Twitter
Aaron Mooy
He's a Manchester City loanee that has cut his teeth in the Championship and looks like a real talent.

Patrick Bamford
The former Chelsea man is too good for the Championship but not quite good enough for the Premier League. Maybe the FA should make a league in-between just for him.

Victor Valdes
We bet when he was at Barcelona he didn't think he would eventually play against Burton Albion away. Image Source: Twitter
Alvaro Negredo
From Manchester City to the Championship. Not going to happen. Image Source: Twitter
Yann Kermorgant
18 goals this season has seen the former Bournemouth man drive Reading to a play-off place. Image Source: Twitter

The Championship is renowned for being a superb arena for showing a players worth. Footballers without real quality disappear into the masses and those that are inconsistent or a fraud fail to shine in this incredibly tough league.
Unfortunately for many of the teams that failed to gain promotion they will see their best players poached.
Defoe and Pickford surely won’t be with Sunderland next term as they are too good for the Championship too.
Whether these players would find success in the
Premier League is up in the air but one thing is for sure, they are too good for the Championship.
