The Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo double-act

Losing to your bitter rivals is never easy, but Real Madrid’s defeat to Atletico in the Champions League semi-final second-leg would’ve been one of the easier to swallow, given the damage Cristiano Ronaldo inflicted on Atleti a week before.

An exciting start to the first-half, that had neutrals and Atletico fans dreaming of a special turnaround, that seemed almost impossible before kick-off in the second-leg, was ended with a bit of magic from Karim Benzema and Isco being in the right place at the right time.

The playmaker’s consolation goal on the night, did enough to deflate Diego Simeone’s side, and set-up a second-half that lacked any real belief from Atletico – Los Blancos are now very much a mental block for their fellow Madridistas when it comes to club football’s ultimate tournament.

Although the encounter lacked the usual bite and tension that neutrals have grown to love between the two heavyweights, Sergio Ramos still did his best to cause some aggravation and get an underhand advantage over Antoine Griezmann’ & co, in the process.

The centre-back, clearly not one keen for disguise and subtlety, instructs fellow pantomime villain, CR7 to fake an elbow from recently yellow carded, Gabi.

Ramos is probably, the greatest centre-back to ever play football, from his goalscoring record to trophy cabinet to those ‘big player’ moments. However, it’s things like this that will forever taint the Spanish international, and get in the way of the defender having a legacy his footballing achievements truly do deserve.
