Since the turn of the new millennium, FC Porto have made well over half a billion GBP in transfer revenue with players sold. Each time they sell one key player (invariably to Atletico Madrid) they always unearth another (invariably from South America).
When you begin to think about it, the list of talent that the Portuguese outfit have sold is frightening, though it could be argued that it was manager Jose Mourinho who really put the club on the map following their fantastic Champions League Final victory in the 2003/04 season.
Who are the best XI FC Porto have sold?
No doubt everyone has their favourite ex-Porto players, with a number as mentioned before leaving to join Atletico Madrid and many other big clubs around Europe. So, let’s have a look at who makes this team set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Arguably the most obscure on this list, Bracali left to join Greek outfit Panetolikos. Image Source: maisfutebol.iol.pt
RB: Paulo Ferreira

You can definitely make a case for others being included in this team. We could quite easily have picked at least two right-backs; Jose Bosingwa and Danilo plus Bruno Alves in the centre of defence. We missed Maniche and Lucho Gonzalez in the heart of midfield, while up front Jackson Martinez, Lisandro Lopez and Benedict McCarthy would have been worthy contenders.
Even the current team consists of players who will no doubt push the club’s transfer revenue above the billion mark and they are likely to keep making healthy profits for years to come. Who would make your XI of players that FC Porto have sold?
