Round of applause for Antonio Conte, who has played the perfect ‘game’ with Diego Costa, with the striker revealing that he has been told by the Italian to find another club:
“I’m a Chelsea player, but they do not want me there,
“Antonio Conte has told me by message that I do not follow at Chelsea and that’s it. Conte said he did not count on me for next season.
“My relationship with the coach has been bad this season. It’s a shame, I’ve already forwarded the message to Chelsea people to decide.
“You have to find a team.”
The former Atletico Madrid striker, who went on strike earlier in the season, to try and force a move through to China, was instrumental in the Blues winning the Premier League in Conte’s debut season, with 20 goals. However, and has as always been the case with Costa, the baggage that comes with the natural talent in front of goal, has been questioned.
Is he really worth it?
Conte has – in Costa’s eyes, no doubt – played him for a fool; pandered to him throughout the season, especially when the Chinese rumours surfaced, as Costa was the only striker Conte trusted; the Italian was dependant on the fiery nutcase.
Chelsea’s powers that be will be fuming that Costa has gone public with the current situation, as that shows the Blues’ hand in any transfer dealings.
The Costa news all but confirms Romelu Lukaku’s impending return to Stamford Bridge. However, does the big Belgium put in a shift like Costa does? For all his run-ins with referees and rival players, Costa’s work ethic and all-round displays of hustling the opposition, are everything Conte wants in all of his players.
Oh, by the way, Conte told Costa via a text message – can you imagine being in the room with Diego opened up that message?!
