FM 2017 new game: 10 signings based on what we know now

Last season conjured up some shocks, in particular players who came from nowhere to take their respective leagues by storm. However, for those who might be bored this summer, with no football week in, week out, it might be the perfect opportunity to log back into FM 2017 and start a new game, based on what you know now.

So, who should you sign now on FM 2017?

As a result, we’ve come up with a choice of 10 bargain signings for whichever club you take over as manager (perhaps clubs with money like Tottenham or Liverpool?) and given you a reason a snap them up.

Kylian Mbappe

Simply a ‘must sign’. While he isn’t listed as effective in a striker role on FM2017 he can still do the business from the left and with some shrewd negotiating is available for around £5million plus some long term ‘add-ons’.

His biggest asset in this game is his pace, with this a great contributory factor for him being able to get in behind opposition defences, while his finishing does improve in time.

Joel Veltman

A key player in that Ajax side who reached the Europa League Final last season, the Dutch defender who can play at centre-back or left-back has always been a good, cheap signing on this game and is a great addition to any team.

He would make a great signing for Spurs, due to him being able to play out of the back and the presence of former Ajax teammates Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, while you can expect to sign him for less than £5million.

Davy Klaassen

A team-mate (now former) of Veltman’s after his summer move to Everton, the ex-Ajax captain was instrumental for the Dutch outfit last campaign. On this game, it is his mental attributes that are the most impressive, though, in time he becomes one of the best players on your team.

Available for less than £7million, again, if handled intelligently, which isn’t bad for a player who will become instrumental in no time at all.

Mateo Musacchio

Having signed for AC Milan this summer, it is perhaps testament to how highly thought of the Argentine centre-back is. Another great season for Villarreal, this technically gifted and tactically astute, pacey defender is a steal for a fee in the region of £7 million and when you start your new game, he is a ‘must sign’.

Alexandre Lacazette

Another fantastic season for Lyon makes the case here. Already with very impressive attributes at the start of FM2017, he is one striker who will guarantee you goals and is practically the finished product.

The best bit is that, depending on your appetite for risk at the negotiating table he can be signed for £5million up front if you increase you add-ons to over £30million for ‘x’ number of games played and goals scored. Think of it like this, if he helps you win the quadrouple, that overall fee will be easily repaid in prize winnings.

Timo Horn

An impressive season between the sticks for FC Koln, at just 23 this German goalkeeper already has some great attributes and performs well during in the game.

The best bit? His club have a minimum fee release clause for just £7.75million (incidentally, less than his valuation) and he is worth every penny.

Dominic Solanke

While he may have had an underwhelming domestic season, the striker set the Under 20s World Cup alight and led the line brilliantly for England, scoring four goals.

While he has since moved to Liverpool, Solanke would be perfect as a rotational striker on FM2017 and is available from Chelsea for less than £4million.

Chris Wood

Top goalscorer in the Championship last season, the New Zealand international striker would be a great capture for a team like Crystal Palace, who already have pace in wide areas and can afford the £3million plus add-ons it would take to prise him from Leeds United.

A low risk signing and even makes an astute addition for a club like Southampton or Bournemouth; the striker scores goals and comes cheap.

Sergi Darder

Crucial in helping Lyon qualify for the Champions League next season, the deep-lying playmaker is almost a carbon-copy of Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets.

He excels in all of the similar attributes as his compatriot and would fit into a team that operates with a passing game. Negotiate well and expect to close a deal for £5million plus add-ons. Well worth it.

Franck Kessie

A combative ball-winning midfielder, whose contribution was key to helping club Atalanta achieve a shock fourth place finish in Serie A last season.

With a phenomenal physical presence and strong tackling ability he is perfect for a club like Chelsea, who on FM2017 can easily afford a well-negotiated £7million plus add-ons price tag.
