Chelsea finally handing Loftus-Cheek the loan he needs

Chelsea’s summer has been relatively difficult thus far, with Antonio Conte failing to land the top-class recruits he’s been chasing, but there is at least more positive news emerging elsewhere.

The Telegraph states new Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer is ready to make Chelsea midfielder Rubens Loftus-Cheek his first signing for the Eagles, landing the England U21 international on-loan for the upcoming Premier League season.

It’s a significant move for Loftus-Cheek, who’s spent the past three years on the fringes of the first-team, and a move will finally hand the 21-year-old the first-team football he needs – putting an end to Chelsea’s questionable decision to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Whilst the Blues have widely been criticised for their youth policy, sending an abundance of youngsters on-loan around Europe, Loftus-Cheek has remained as a bit-part player within the Chelsea squad – making 22 Premier League appearances, just five more than he’s featured for England’s U21 side.

Chelsea have high hopes for Loftus-Cheek but clearly don’t value him enough to give him regular football, as the Blues have signed Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante to play ahead of him in recent years – yet still they’ve insisted on keeping him around.

Loftus-Cheek has been crying out for a loan move for the past few years and should now grab his opportunity with both hands, as Crystal Palace are a stable club who should be able to give him the football he needs.

With Chelsea scouring the market for a new central-midfield partner to Kante, there’s every chance that Loftus-Cheek could find a spot in Chelsea’s starting line-up next summer if he impresses during his spell in South London.
