Diego Costa burns any bridges he has left at Chelsea

Diego Costa certainly hasn’t been a man to shy away from the limelight during his time in the Premier League and his bold approach was clear to see last night.

Having been informed by Antonio Conte that he’s surplus to requirements at Chelsea for the forthcoming season, the Spanish striker has been granted leave from the club’s pre-season and has instead been living the life in Brazil.

Reports have suggested that Costa is desperate on a move back to former side Atletico Madrid, despite a transfer ban meaning he’d be unable to feature until 2018, and the striker’s ‘come and get me plea’ on social media last night was evident for all to see.

Enjoying a party in South America, Costa turned the camera to reveal he was wearing an Atletico jersey, sparking a laughing reaction from teammate Cesc Fabregas, and Costa then asked his compatriot to ‘give Conte a hug’.

It seems Costa is in high spirits despite being axed from Chelsea’s plans but after this stunt it’s clear that any small chance of him fighting his way back inside the side are gone, despite the Blues’ struggle to land a top-class striker in the transfer window.

With Chelsea’s struggles to get a new striker through the door being obvious, they may be left to regret their decision to axe Costa early as the Blues currently lack options- with Michy Batshuayi standing as the only senior striker within the squad.

Costa may end up playing for two clubs in the 2017/18 season due to Atletico’s transfer ban, possibly spending the first-half of the campaign on-loan elsewhere, and the Spanish side have already navigated past their transfer issues by signing Vitolo from Sevilla and sending him on-loan to Las Palmas until January.

It’s difficult to imagine Costa behaving himself in the holiday island of Gran Caneria though, making a move to Las Palmas unlikely, but there’s plenty of other options for the Spaniard- including Turkish outfit Besiktas.
