To play links courses, one of the most important shots is the bump and run.
The bump and run is one of the most important tools in a links golfers arsenal. When you have a tight light, instead of taking the wedge golfers should take a longer club such as a 7 iron and hit down on the ball with the ball back in their stance.
This will produce a low, running shot along the ground. The ball will bounce a few times short of the green and roll up towards the hole. Even if you don’t make perfect contact, the ball will still run forward with a lot of topspin, minimising risk. Of course, you must make sure there is nothing between you and the whole!
