PGA TOUR star Charles Howell III tries out the Mizuno MP-64 irons. The 2012 Open Championship saw the first public sightings of Mizuno’s new MP-64 irons – set for September 2012 release. With heads sent in advance to Mizuno’s European Tour Workshop, the first sets were made up for testing during Open Championship week. The MP64 irons have been specifically designed for Mizuno’s professional tour staff, with the shallow cavity offering a touch more forgiveness than a traditional blade, yet still retaining the famous Mizuno soft and solid feel.
Chris Voshall, Mizuno R&D – “We flipped the design process on the MP-64. Maximising feel became the absolute priority – with forgiveness added afterwards. With other more forgiving ‘player’ irons in our line like the JPX825Pro and MP-59, we were free to really chase impact sensations. Everything about the MP-64 iron is soft, from the muscle definition, the sole contours and ultimately the feel.”
