Marty Jertson, Senior Engineer at PING, discusses what’s new with PING in 2013.
PING is a family-owned company founded in 1959 in the garage of Karsten Solheim. Karsten’s frustration with his putting inspired him to design a putter, which made a “pinging” sound when striking a golf ball. Today, PING is synonymous with innovation, quality and service in the world of golf.
Some of PING’s professionals include Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan and Louis Oothuizen. In April 2012, Bubba Watson’s status as a fan favorite soared when he won the Masters in dramatic fashion after an improbable escape shot from the woods on the second hole of a playoff with Oosthuizen. Known for leading the tour in average driving distance (he’s currently #1 at 315.3 yards), this season Watson has also been at or near the top in greens in regulation, and he has six top-10s, including two second-place finishes. This year’s Ryder Cup will mark his second time playing for the U.S.
