After the best season of his career, Rory McIlroy has skipped two of golf’s elite events to prepare for a legal settlement case with former management company Horizon Sports. The lawsuit is reportedly worth millions of pounds and could take months to settle.
Horizon Sports and McIlroy were unable to resolve the dispute on their own accord, forcing them to bring the case to the high courts. Despite hoping to play in this week’s WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in China, McIlroy said that he needed to commit a significant amount of time to focus on the case:
“I’m going to need time away from tournament golf to prepare for the trial over my legal dispute with Horizon Sports Management.”
