- The playful exchange took place at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions last week.
- Kevin Kisner made the mistake of commenting on his long drive.
Kisner, who ranks 61st in driving distance, pointed to his ball that had trickled past Bubba Watson’s on the 17th hole.
“I smoked it by Bubba on 17, look it up,” gloated Kisner. “And I talked trash all the way down,” he added. This joy was short lived as Bubba came back strongly on the 18th hole and ripped his drive into a different zip code. “Then he hit it by me 70 [yards] at [No.] 18,” said the now humbled American.
Kisner is ranked 16th in the world and can hit a pretty decent ball for his modest 165 pound frame. The drive he was talking about travelled 406 yards compared with Bubba’s 369.
It goes to show how much of a difference a good bounce can make to the finishing distance of a tee shot. Bubba showed why he is up there with the big boys as he almost got a hole-in-one on a 356-yard par 4.
