It has been two years and seven months since Phil Mickelson’s last win on tour.

This week at Pebble Beach, Phil dominated the course and looked like a new and improved Lefty. But Sunday came around and he lost it. He was all over the place, and then to end the round in a playoff, he missed a 5 foot putt.

That lip out is so painful! It hurts to be so close and then miss at 5 feet. I just want to go out there and give Phil a hug.
“Never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t make that one,” Mickelson told reporters. “When it didn’t go in, I was a bit shocked.”
I think everyone was shocked. Phil went into the final round with a two-shot lead and admitted nerves played a part in his missed opportunity.
There is always a silver lining. This loss allowed Vaughn Taylor to win his first PGA Tour title in 11 years. Phil still has a lot left in him and this tournament showed us that, but this heartbreaking loss led to a heartbreaking win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
