Jordan Spieth nearly went to USC because they offered him this irresistible perk

You’d never have thought anything could take Jordan Spieth out of Texas, but you’ll be shocked to learn how close he really came to betraying his beloved Longhorns.

Back when he was deciding where to go to college, only his strong sense of loyalty to Texas kept him from joining the University of Southern California to take advantage of this special bonus. And don’t judge, you would have been tempted too if you were a young golfer who’d just been offered a free temporary membership to Riviera.

“In all honesty, a huge thing for me USC was I heard that they had four playing memberships at Riviera. So when I came on my visit, I was offered one of the four memberships at Riviera for the time you’re at USC, and that’s a pretty awesome perk.

“I was looking into USC, UCLA and Stanford and I was looking at Oklahoma State and Texas. Two were close to home and I liked ┬ábeing in California and I liked being out here. I was considering those. Not really sure why. Just they had great teams, good coaches, loved being out here for exactly what everyone else does, the weather and the scenery.”

It wouldn’t have been the same if Spieth had chosen USC over Texas, no matter what perks they were going to give him. In the end he made the right decision, joining golfers like Brandel Chamblee, Davis Love, Jr., and Cody Gribble.
