Rory McIlroy Makes Kid’s Dream Come True
Rory McIlroy has taken it upon himself to invite 13-year-old Tom McKibbin from Northern Ireland, to his Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. This event is hosted by McIlroy’s charity the Rory Foundation.
Last August Tom McKibbin won the World Junior Championships at age 12, which McIlroy won when he was just nine years old. Earlier this year McKibbin won the Junior Honda Classic in Florida, catching McIlroy’s eye.
“Tom McKibbin is a great talent. I played a round with Tom in Florida recently and he is the real deal. At only 13 years of age, I think he has a remarkable golfing future ahead of him.
“Having seen him play a couple of times now, he impresses me more each time. And I can think of no better place to showcase his talents than at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at the K Club.”
Rory McIlroy is making this kid’s dream come true. He is playing alongside one of the greatest golfers in the world and he was asked to do so! Not only that but he gets to play hookey too. I don’t know which one he’s more excited for.. oh the life of a 13-year-old.
“I have to thank Rory for inviting me to play in the Pro Am at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. Not only do I get a day off school but I get to play alongside one of the best golfers in the world. It’s getting close now and I’m pretty excited. I’ve been practicing as often as possible.”
I think Rory has found his mini me! Must be an Irish thing.
