This year’s U.S. Open venue is expected to be one of the hardest in the competition’s history. There are a few reasons for this. Number one, the organisers at Oakmont use the length of the rough to control the course. With intermittent rain hitting Pennsylvania, it’s very likely that they decide to keep the second cut long.
Graeme McDowell had some advice for those competing this week.
Justin Thomas showed us how unbelievable it really is.

The temperature is hitting 90 all week, so the thick rough probably isn’t reflective of the conditions on the fairways and greens. They are absolutely lightning! Rickie Fowler’s Snapchat was terrifying, imagine being Ernie Els and having to play around the fastest greens in the world. The South African has been suffering with the yips and his concern will be shared by those who struggle from under five feet.
Who is your money on? Does Spieth have the edge with his superior putting game? Arnold Palmer once said you can hit 72 greens in regulation and still not win at Oakmont. Does this mean Rory McIlroy is going to struggle? Jason Day has to be looking good this week, his putting has been top draw.
