The European Tour held a Hickory Challenge after the third round of the European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club. It’s hard to know what we can take away from all this.
One thing is clear, the modern golf swing is not compatible with a hickory shafted golf club.

In 1936 Anthony Manero finished −6 par after four rounds at Baltusrol. That’s an incredible achievement when you consider the course was playing 6,900 yards at the time.
Danny Willett, Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Jimenez would obviously need some time to adjust to the old equipment, but it does make you wonder what difference tech makes for guys like Jimenez and Westwood whose careers have been prolonged thanks to distance off the tee
I would love to have a go at this. It would really separate the hybrid-dependant boys from the ball-striking men.
