The name Phil Mickelson is synonymous with creativity, but why?
We’ve seen lefty hit some ridiculous shots over the years, as this “Top 10” demonstrates. It’s a huge part of his game, he belongs to the Seve Ballesteros club; the guys who would sooner hit a pitching wedge from the rough than an 8-iron from the fairway.
Seve left some big shoes to fill, but it’s safe to say Phil comes the closest to emulating the “Car Park King.” One person commented on this clip with the words: “I swear Phil deliberately puts himself in these positions, he can’t get enough!”

Seve was notoriously stubborn and difficult to advise when it came to shot selection. Unlike many players at the time, Seve could hit two fairways and still shoot low. Phil is much the same, it’s almost as if he relishes the opportunity to rescue himself from trouble. He’s pathologically incapable of doing things the normal way, and that’s why he’s one of the most popular players in the world.
