Jason Day is currently ranked the No. 1 golfer in the world, a rank that his idol and friend, Tiger Woods, held for 683 weeks in his prime.
Now Tiger is trying to make his return to the competitive field and Day is just trying to support his friend in the process. Day spoke to USA Today after Woods’ return at the Hero World Challenge about the whole thing.
“Time is not on his side…he’s going to be 41 soon,” the 29-year-old told USA Today.
“There’s no advice I can give Tiger golf-wise that’s going to make arguably the greatest player ever any better. I’m just trying to support him, making him feel young, as he tells me. I did talk with him after last week, and he seemed very positive.”
The two have been friends for a while now and always have each other’s backs during hard times. There was even a time when it was thought that a motivational text Day received from Tiger helped him win a tournament.
That doesn’t mean that the two aren’t competitive. Day even said that he want’s him to return just so he can beat him.
“In a selfish way, I want him to come back. I want to try and beat him at his best. It would be great to see him have one last shot at trying to break Jack’s record. “
One last shot. Wow. That just sounds wrong, but Day is nothing, if not honest.
Hopefully we can see the two competing side by side in 2017, possibly as soon as February.
