The 2018 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain has been announced

Who will be the 2018 Ryder Cup Captain? Reports are saying it will be the one and only Jim Furyk!!

The Telegraph reported:

It is understood that the choice of the selection committee – which included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and last year’s winning captain, Davis Love – had come down to either Furyk or Fred Couples for next year’s renewal at Le Golf National, just outside Paris.

Furyk became the overwhelming favorite when he said that he would be willing to put everything aside to become the Captain if the committee thought he was the best fit.

“That committee is in place for a reason,” Furyk said last month. “If they decide 2018, 2020, 2022, whenever, that I’m the right person, I would love to have that job.”

Jim Furyk has competed in nine straight Ryder Cup teams from 1997-2014, compiling a 10-20-4 individual record. He also assisted Davis Love III in last year’s victory over Europe, the first time since 2008.

“I’m very proud to represent my country and when I look back on my career and the things I’ve done, making nine teams means an awful lot.

You have to be consistent and to be able to qualify by right for eight of them, to be in the mix that often, I’m proud of that. I don’t think you ever need motivation to play in the Ryder Cup. It is my favorite event.”

Although it has not been confirmed, being Captain would just be another accomplishment Furyk could check off of his list. France will host its first Ryder Cup at Le Golf National, a club about 15 miles west of Paris.

Can Furyk bring the W on Europe’s turf?
