Augusta National just bought a Pep Boys for an outrageous amount of money

Augusta National Golf Club can’t stop and won’t stop until they own the entire city of Augusta.

Per ABC News Channel 6, ANGC has bought out Manny, Moe, and Jack. Or at least, one Pep Boys location. The bastion of traditionalism reportedly paid $6.9 million for the Washington Road property.

The news comes on the heels of the $5.35 million purchase of Jay’s Music Center last fall. The club showcased its nearly limitless cash reserves by paying more than eight times the assessed value of that parcel of land, so you’d have to assume that the $6.9 million for Pep Boys represents a massive overpayment.

But hey…

Clearly, this Pep Boys location needed the money…they couldn’t even afford to light up their whole damn sign!

Alternatively, maybe they extinguished the “ts” in “Auto Parts” in honor of the sale. Get it, “Auto Par,” No? OK.

Reportedly, only an Olive Garden, a Wendy’s and a Walgreens are the lone businesses abutting the club. And while there’s a rumor that the ANGC membership’s affinity for Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers could halt the purchase and demolition of Wendy’s (not true), it’s clear these properties are next on the chopping block as Augusta National continues its expansion.

The home of the Masters built a new practice facility and new media center (yay for the scribes), which as set to open at this year’s edition of the Tradition Unlike Any Other™.
