Fake European Tour reporter mercilessly pranks PGA TOUR players

The European Tour debuted a new segment this week: The Awkward Reporter. No, it’s not Notah Begay…

At last week’s tournament in Dubai, a fugazi reporter for the equally fake Mirage Sports Media, Thomas Gray, grabbed the mic to approach the global golfing elite. All the while, Nicolas Colsaerts and Chris Wood were in his ear giving him direction.

The interviewer become famous in the U.K. for this satirical take on a bachelor party:

Check out Henrik Stenson, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Lee Westwood and Rafa Cabrera Bello getting awkward.

After a not inconsiderable time mic checking, the intrepid reporter has Rickie Fowler get in on the faux sound checkery.

“Ask Henrik Stenson the same questions as many times as possible,” Colsaerts tells the reporter (like that’s somehow different than a standard press conference?) Brilliant!

Hitting D.J. with the ole’ “Zach Johnson” was good. Asking him about his (alleged!) romp with Jimmy Walker’s wife would have been better.

2:50
Martin Kaymer jumping in the booth and getting the apparently vain Rafa Cabrera Bello to flash the ole’ six pack was just the kind of clutch performance we’d expect from a major champion. And never underestimate the value of an out-of-place butt tap between heterosexual males.

3:40
Tyrrell Hatton. You poor bastard. Hope they let him in on the joke.

4:20
Liam Westwood!

Final comments: I would have liked to see more specific knowledge of their peers demonstrated by Colsaerts and Wood. Like, if Lee Westwood is known to drink Carling, have the reporter ask, “Have you heard about the new study linking drinking Carling beer to the inability to win major championship?” Or some such.

Ultimately, it’s hard not to be all in for anything that knocks these globetrotting prima-donnas down a peg. Keep it up, European Tour.
