Lee Westwood’s girlfriend fills in as caddy…kills it

Unfortunately, Lee Westwood’s caddy could not attend the Abu Dhabi Championship this week, due to a death in the family.

However, Lee Westwood played it smart by bringing his girlfriend to shlep his gear. And Lee’s playing like a rockstar.

Since girlfriend Helen Storey picked up Westwood’s bag, Lee shot 68 and 69. That’s better than he’s faired in the U.A.E since 2008. In 2008 he finished second at the same tournament.

Rather than trying to stack up with one of the Euro Tour’s most expert caddies, Storey said this:

“Just keeping up: That was my job’,..’And I made sure he was hydrated. I managed to get round in one piece. He’s very even-tempered all the time with me. It was good fun.”

Westwood exhibited the same upbeat attitude, and why not since he’s played so well? When asked, he had this to say about the change:

“I think doing my own yardages and looking at the yardage chart has been good. It’s focused my attention.”

Certainly Westwood won’t replace longtime caddy Billy Foster, but change never hurts. Especially shooting as well as this week. The TOUR isn’t too happy that Helen’s not keeping track of stats although the TOUR can just deal with it.

Foster returns to tournament work at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. At least while he’s gone, he knows that Westwood is in good hands.
