The golf gods filled the 2017 Genesis Open with plenty of goodies. We had diversity appreciation, Tiger Woods news and even Mac O’ Grady.
In addition, you can add Phil Mickelson pulling at some heart strings with unbelievably beautiful short game play. Not just on one hole though, but on nine. Prepare yourself for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR video game kind of shots.
It started here, on the 10th hole.
We’ve run out of adjectives to describe Phil Mickelson’s short game.#ShotOfTheDay pic.twitter.com/RKjs4sHb4X

Over and in for an eagle? Well that’s just lefty warming up. Check this next one out at 17.
A hat tip and a thumbs up.

Nothing says Phil Mickelson more than a tip of the cap and a thumbs up. I love it. And if you thought he can’t chip in with one hole left, guess what?

After that, the rest of the players at Riviera should consider themselves lucky that was the 18th. Three chip/pitch ins in 9 holes, it doesn’t get much better than that. If Phil had anymore time, he’d be making leaderboard jumps. After chipping in on 18, Phil finished tied for 35th with a 69.
That’s right, even with his impeccable short game on the back 9, Phil didn’t even make it into the top 20. Lefty’s back and forth game is what makes him, well him, but it would be nice to see some of his incredible short game pay off. He hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2013, where he won at the Waste Management Open and The Open Championship.
Hopefully he’ll be able to channel his magic for all four rounds and finally pull off a W for the 2017 season.
