With the next batch from FIFA’s top 100, it’s time to take a look at the players ranked from 80-61. Fortunately, there wasn’t too many errors in the players ranked from 100-81, but now players can be compared against each other.
It will be interesting to see what wingers EA think are better than the likes of Sadio Mane and Yannick Carrasco who didn’t make the top 80.
80) Jan Vertonghen : 85 -> 85
It’s fair to say that Vertonghen has been excellent since being partnered with his Belgian compatriot at centre-half.
79) Angel Di Maria : 85 -> 86
Di Maria amazing skills 2016-2017 pic.twitter.com/llW6z5CRBN
— Amslow ✨ (@AmslowFR) September 6, 2017
While Di Maria hasn’t performed as exceptionally as he did at Real Madrid, he’s still been very good for PSG. Not many teams would say no to the idea of Di Maria lining up on the wing for them.
78) Filipe Luis : 85 -> 85
Playing it safe. In Atletico’s system, Luis is easily one of the best left-backs in the world.
77) Lorenzo Insigne : 85 -> 83
I think Mané is class but if you think he's better than Insigne you are deluded.
— Ed 💎 (@CalcioFanEd) September 5, 2017
It looks like we’re deluded then, as there is no way that Insigne is better than Mane. Not only is Insigne playing in a weaker division, he isn’t the best player for Napoli either; Dries Mertens owns that title.
76) Cesar Azpilicueta : 85 -> 84
Azpilicueta played great centrally last season, but it’s a little premature to be putting him on par with the likes of Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen.
75) Miralem Pjanic : 85 -> 84
A great player, but Pjanic was much better at Roma.
74) Jordi Alba : 85 -> 86
Guardiola pls sign Jordi Alba!!!!!!!!!
— Tobi Adebowale (@TobiAde_) April 8, 2012
The games best attacking full-back – It’s surprising that Pep didn’t target Alba this summer.
73) Keylor Navas : 85 -> 85
An 85 is fair for the Costa Rican cat.
72) Blaise Matuidi : 85 -> 85
Arguably the coup of the summer. £18.2million for one of France’s best midfielders.
71) Casemiro : 85 -> 85
EA is playing it pretty safe here, but it’s difficult to disagree after a solid season for the Brazilian.
70) Alexandre Lacazette : 85 -> 86
Lacazette is best player in the world. Better than Messi and Ronaldo.

Lethal finisher. If given the service, he will score.
69) Miranda : 86 -> 85
It just seems too unfair to rate Miranda above Vertonghen. Let’s not get carried away.
68) Pepe : 86 -> 86
The type of defender that would thrive in the Premier League. Strong, aggressive, dominant.
67) David Alaba : 86 -> 86
86 is deserved, even if just for the Austrian’s amazing versatility.
66) Petr Cech : 86 -> 84
Get rid of agent cech!
— patmanAFC🖕 (@ufackinwot) September 4, 2017
On current form, it’s clear to see that Cech is past his best. Still, 84 is respectable for the undercover Chelsea agent.
65) Javi Martinez : 86 -> 85
While a solid player, the Spaniard isn’t quite on the same level as Pepe.
64) Marco Reus : 86 -> 88
It’s almost sad to see Reus go from cover star to losing two ratings due to injury. Let’s judge him from his games without injury. Sturridge would be a 78 if EA took account of the time he spends on the sidelines!
63) Diego Costa : 86 -> 87
Diego Costa has been on holiday for 79 days.
— eazy (@acmilan_eb) August 30, 2017
Fancies playing more futsal than 11-aside these days, the Brazilian deserves an upgrade alone just for taking a long holiday. Chelsea fans would love to see Costa partnering Morata up front.
62) Sokratis Papastathopoulos: 86 -> 86
A strong 86 rating for Dortmund’s star defender. It also costs £86 if you want a Dortmund shirt with the Greek’s full name on (some sizes not available).
61) Franck Ribery : 86 -> 84
It’s time to move more central for one of the games best ever wingers. Of course, overall he probably is deserving of an 86, but as a left winger? Probably not…
