Pro Evolution Soccer’s latest bid to maintain relevance and to try and break FIFA’s grasp on the football gaming sphere has seen them add Usain Bolt to the soon to be released Pro Evo 18 beta.
The recently retired eight-time Olympic gold medalist’s love for the beautiful game has been no secret, with the Jamaican icon going through that awkward charade of joking that he wants to play for Manchester United, even though inside he has been going: “Sir Alex Ferguson, I beg you; please sign me!”
Bolt’s rating of 75 is based, as you’d expect, around having 99 pace, which will make him an exceptionally handy player on the game in his left wing position – and should you find the back of the onion bag with the 31-year-old you can celebrate in trademark Bolt fashion.

“I love football and have played PES for as long as I can remember – it’s the best football game there is – and it’s a great honour to be a part of it and its success.
“When the opportunity arose to be a player in PES 2018, it was too good to be true.
“Having my face and movements scanned for use in the game was a fascinating process and I hope those who pre-order the game make full use of my pace and skill!”

The lip service paid to Pro Evolution Soccer by Bolt won’t do much for Konami’s sales. And although having someone like the world’s most famous athlete associated with your brand feels like a good marketing strategy, it further adds to belief that Pro Evo isn’t too far away from becoming a gimmicky game like the often forgotten Red Card Soccer, which was a widely entertaining prison rules football game against dolphins.
Yes, you read that right. Dolphins.
