Switching Roles: Mets’ Noah Syndergaard Talks ‘Game of Thrones’ Cameo

Mets player Noah Syndergaard made a cameo appearance in the hit series Game of Thrones as a Lannister soldier in one of the most intricate and powerful scenes in television history.

Syndergaard was a part of the magic that brought life to Daenerys Targaryen riding her dragon Drogon onto the Lannister army, bringing fire and blood with it, as she always promises.

If you’re a true Game of Thrones fan and watch the ‘inside the episode’ scenes after the episode with the directors David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, then you already know all of the hard work that went into creating that scene. From the pyrotechnics of destroying the loot to make it look like the fire was coming from above, to the actors that were literally on fire.

Scenes like these are few and far between on television series, which is why Game of Thrones has such a huge following. Besides character development and unbelievable acting, every person on set puts their entire heart into creating a world we could only imagine.

Syndergaard gives all the credit to his cameo to his mother, who convinced him to watch the series in the first place, for which he will be forever grateful. Thankfully, he got to take his parents on the set, so it paid off for her as well.

“It was an awesome time,” he said. “I got to go with my parents. We went to Spain, it was about three hours outside Madrid in a little village and stayed there for four or five days or so.”

“The coolest thing was seeing the pyrotechnics and how the whole scene came about — just to see how much, time and dedication it took to make that scene look awesome.”

I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to be in the midst of such a huge production like that, especially as a background actor or in this case a baseball player. Even having such a small role, each person is a part of creating the horror, passion, and drama that is portrayed on every fan’s screen at home.

Lucky for the Mets, Syndergaard is still first and foremost a baseball player, but his taste for acting has widened his horizons a bit.

“I really don’t have anything planned, but if the opportunity were to come up, yeah, I’d definitely be hoping to do some of that. It’s just a great way to expose yourself and get out there.”

Unfortunately, we all have to wait until 2019 for the next and last season to return.
