Rumours of Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez are surfacing – but haven’t we all suffered enough? Surely Dana White and Oscar De Le Hoya won’t actually be discussing this past the rumour stage.
One clause which will be in the contract for sure is that Adalaide Byrd will not be allowed to judge on the contest after her ridiculous scoring of 118-110 in favour of Canelo against Gennady Golovkin.
Really though, is there any point in such event taking place? McGregor looked terrible against Mayweather.
It's a knockout. Embarrassing spectacle. Seriously. "Only needs one shot" lads, where are you? #Mayweather #McGregor

While everyone was happy to rely on the “It only takes one shot” cliche for the Mayweather fight, surely people now realise that this only refers to close contests. Effectively, the Irishman has as much chance against Canelo Alvarez as Rio Ferdinand.
Rumor is #ConorMcGregor vs #Canelo is in the works. Seriously, this has to stop. Conor is gonna get hurt.

When you think about all the factors involved, the more it seems unrealistic – Conor McGregor is by no means stupid. The MMA star took a chance on Floyd Mayweather as he is the much younger man and excluding the cheap shot against Victor Ortiz in 2011, the American’s last knockout was in 2007 against Ricky Hatton. Not forgetting the $30million guaranteed purse.
The Irishman is a shrewd businessman, but he doesn’t want to be embarrassed. While there’s no shame in being outclassed in boxing by the leader of ‘The Money Team’, the ending is inevitable if he steps in the ring with Saul Alvarez.

To be fair to Amir Khan, that shot would end most matches. More importantly, though, this highlights that Canelo’s style for McGregor is a complete mismatch. Theoretically, if the fight took place, the counter-puncher would end the fight inside three rounds and those who had paid £16.95 to watch the spectacle would be feeling robbed.
It’s time to stop the nonsense over which sport has the more dominant fighters. No matter what theatrics take place in press conferences, there’s only going to be one winner when it takes place in a boxing ring.
In many ways, it’s a waste of everyone’s time. Fans wait half of a year for an event to happen for the result to be no surprise at all. For Canelo especially, it makes no sense at all when the Mexican is just 27-years-old – Errol Spence Jr. is the man who Canelo should be taking on.
“That would be a spectacle. It would be like something out of ‘Rocky’. I suppose this whole story is like a ‘Rocky’ story, right? So why not face a man in his home country in a crazy place like Russia?”
Conor McGregor speaking on Khabib Nurmagomedov
In terms of what the Irishman should focusing on, a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov would be very exciting – and would probably bring fans from both boxing and MMA together – so why waste time on another farce of a boxing match?
It’s time to stop the trend of fighters calling each other out from different sports. Stick to what you’re good at.
